Sew North blankets imitate traditional quilted and sewn squares, combining contrasting fabrics, recycling and retro-vitalizing previously enjoyed fabrics. The blankets include fabric strips and material pieces, creating unique one-of-a-kind creations and resembling that well-loved quilt. Many Sew North Blankets commemorate departed love ones, as a memory quilt, created from clothing worked into blankets that cover and blanket loved ones in warm memories.
Each memory blanket includes a detailed write-up of what the threads revealed; hand sewn buttons are counted and hand stitched hems are commented on. Blankets can be constructed with black and white or sepia fabric photos, appliqués, buttons, embroidery, and incorporate other treasured items.
